MISUNDERSTANDINGS — I
Pen & Ink
2024

“We wear the skull before the skin.”
—Francis Bacon

I wanted to strip the skin off Bacon’s work, yes, but I also wanted to attempt to convey what form does not.

MISUNDERSTANDINGS — I (2024) is the first in a series about what suffering looks like when it is forced into form at the moment of self-annihilation.

It is the last unbearable shape.

A structure left behind when the skin is gone, when the self has already vanished but the feeling remains, exposed. If my suffering could leave a mark, if despair could hold its shape, this is what it would look like.
